Protection for Wildlife from Habitat destruction

Measures to stop roadkill

Roads are often crossed by natural migration routes of animals living in a particular locality. To solve the problem of wildlife destruction under the wheels of vehicles in many countries of erecting special bridges. For these bridges, animals can move freely without risk of being shot down. This post contains a few examples of such bridges built in Canada, Australia, USA, Holland and France.

MindTree General Manager Segregates Waste At Home

Those who turn up their noses at garbage heaps in their neighbourhood should meet Veena Rajappa, 38. General manager of MindTree, Veena has not only thrown open a part of her house for waste segregation but also devotes prime time during weekends for waste management in her neighbourhood of Rajarajeshwari Nagar.
Veena’s efforts have got residents of 500 houses in her neighbourhood to segregate waste at source every day. The result is huge: the daily waste burden is reduced by two tonnes. Mavallipura, where the dumping of garbage has sparked off civic outrage, can breathe that much more easy.
“It is not only my effort. My neighbours have contributed too. I’ve visited all 500 houses in my locality and explained to residents the necessity of garbage management. Unless we, the educated citizens, start segregating waste at source, and give paper and plastic waste for recycling, issues like the Mavallipura dumpyard will remain,” says a modest Veena.
Veena’s hectic work schedule has not dimmed her enthusiasm for the weekend grind. She began collecting dry waste, largely recyclable plastic and paper, from 250 households in her locality on February 12, 2012. Faced with a lack of spaceto store dry waste, she turned a room in her backyard into a storehouse. Once a week, the collected recyclable waste is cleared by ITC Limited for further recycling. The company has distributed bags to every household to store dry waste, and pays for the waste it purchases. About Rs 2,500 is paid to the pourakarmika every month.

Waste collection system around the world

This is a brief report on  waste collection system around the world .The important thing we need to notice is not style or lavishness but brilliant  waste collection protocol  for PLASTIC,GLASS,ELECTRONIC MATERIALS so that it can be separated and recycled easily by avoiding hazardous landfill and endless impact on human health.

Not a shame but time to  learn the lesson .
India has many things to proud and many lessons to learn.

Wednesday 25 July 2012

A recent report by As You Sow, a non-profit focusing on promoting "environmental and social corporate responsibility through shareholder advocacy, coalition building, and innovative legal strategies", shows that Americans are throwing cash in the trash, almost literally. At least 11.4 billion dollars in recyclables - steel, plastics, glass, paper, etc - are not recycled and thus wasted. The report argues for "extended producer responsibility" (EPR), which would shift the responsibility for post-consumer waste from taxpayers and municipal governments to the companies that produce the packaging, creating incentives for producers to reduce the amount of packaging they create, increasing packaging recycling rates, providing revenue to improve recycling systems, and reducing carbon and energy use.

We Have Met the Enemy, And He Is Waste...

It does sound very good when put like that, though let's not kid ourselves: Companies make stuff, but we buy it, and the cost of this system would move from "taxpayers" to "consumers", so it would still be the same people bearing it. The good news would be that the incentives would be much better for effective recycling programs and reductions in packaging.

As You Sow/Screen capture
Still, a lot of money could be saved and less environmental damage would be done. This is even more true now that billions of people around the world are getting out of abject poverty and starting to use more of everything (materials & energy). That's a very good thing from a humanitarian point of view, but this change must be done in a way that protects the ecosystems which support all life on Earth.
So this report only looked at the U.S., but it's no doubt much the same all around the world, with some places doing better and some places doing worse. But this is an opportunity: While a lot of money can be saved now by stopping this waste of useful materials, it should pay even more as time goes on. It's likely that we are in the early stages of a commodities trend that will only lead to higher prices over the next decades as large parts of Asia, South-America and Africa develop economically quickly and supply of many commodities will have trouble keeping up, in good part because commodity prices were pretty low during the 1980s and 1990s and very little investment was made in exploration.
So to come back to recycling, these higher prices should provide one more incentive for not throwing out perfectly good steel or paper to the landfill. Cutting this waste doesn't just make environmental sense, it also makes economic sense if only we can properly align incentives for optimal recycling

Plastic is not just a waste after you use

The world is on the  plastic or below the plastic  ,Like a water cycle and carbon cycle, man made his own cycle ie plastic cycle .
2.4 Crore ton of  global production of plastic pushing world into innumerable consequences which affects both on Human health and  nature.
No plastic is safe as it is  manufactured using crude oil(petrol and diesel are byproduct of crude oil) .Water bottle on office desk, baby milk feeding bottle,Foam insulation plastic in your car and many are not completely safe as it plastic  should confront in various environmnet.
They are nearly 7 types of Plastic will be manufactured which fits on various applications.

Type1-Polyethylene Terephthalate(PET).
Inside the recycle symbol mentioned that  plastic type 1 has been used   indicating  it should be used only once
Commonly used in Coco cola and Pepsi beverages which must be used only once.
Reusing these bottles cause breakage of molecules of plastic and leach into liquid which you are store in that ,on consumption  leads to liver problems ,reproductive difficulties and also cancer.
So never use beverages bottles for second time .

Type 2-High density polyethylene.

Recommended for reuse ,see the symbol before you use it as your daily drinking bottle .Symbol will be like this on water bottle .Plastic type 2 recommended for daily usage unlike type1.

Inside the recycle symbol  mentioned  plastic type 2  has been mentioned  which indicates it can be  reused

High Density Plastic Water Bottles

Amazing as well as Scarious Facts of  Plastic:
1.Plastic Industry turnover is 800 billion euros per year.
2.Plastic global production is 2500 crore kg .
3.A simple plastic which you carry to grocery store will take 300 to 500 years to decay and decay process is also toxic as it liberates lethal chemicals to atmosphere .
4.If the plastic product you are using for storing food or liquid it should not smell,a good grade plastic will not have its own smell.
5.In the plastic manufacturing process crude oil will be mix with top secret molecules to make plastic, they are 250000 molecules like that,it has taken  10 years to test only 10 out of 250000,out of ten many are cancer causing toxic molecules.
6.World famous beverages companies like coke, pepsi will not allow any visitors to see plastic manufacturing process as they dont want to reveal top secret molecules information.
7.Practically there is no 100% safe plastic at all .

Have you observed some people avoid sudden entry into car if it  parked in sunlight?
Car seat cover is made of Polystyrene  .Benzene will be used in Polystyrene manufacturing process.
On heating of seat by sunlight benzene will release as it  is carcinogenic (Cancer causing) people who have awareness of this avoid sudden entry into car and allow air entry by opening doors for few seconds.

On all the beverages like coke , Pepsi bottles you will see the caution "Avoid direct sunlight" what it means?
Beverages plastic bottle made of type 1 plastic ie -Polyethylene Terephthalate(PET).On heating of bottle, the toxin DEHA  leach into beverages causing effects on liver, fertility problem. So these beverage bottles should not be come under direct sunlight and should not be used for second time.
But in countries like India how consumer can sure about logistics standards  as it not follow product safety guidelines. You can see coke and pepsi autos will be standing in sunlight for hours together which supposed to carry under air conditioned vehicles.

Coffee is for insects not for Your Body

7 Reasons to Cut Back on Coffee

Coffee is for Bugs not Your Body!
Caffeine is a natural insecticide that plants have been using to protect themselves from insects for thousands of years!
That caffeine in your steaming cup of coffee has been put to much better use in driving away or killing insects in your backyard, rather than getting you going in the morning.
7 Reasons to Cut Down on Your Coffee or Caffeine Consumption
1. Caffeine was developed as a poison.
Over millions of years, plants have developed various powerful compounds to stop insects from stripping away every bit of greenery from the planet. Many plants are obviously poisonous or extremely inedible to protect themselves. Other examples of slightly toxic substances include oxalic acid in leafy greens and capsaicin in chili peppers. When you consider the fact that we consume 12,000 tons of caffeine a year, the amounts in these other foods are miniscule in comparison. A good rule of thumb for health is to avoid or reduce poisons.
2. Caffeine exhausts the adrenals.
Whereas a dose of caffeine in a small insect may stun or even kill it, in humans it just gives us a little “buzz.” This stimulation is what many people depend on to get themselves going with their morning coffee, but it is short lived.
Since it really is just stimulation, an excitement of the nervous and glandular system, it’s not producing any long term energy; and as soon as that little high wears off, you are reaching for another shot.  Do this enough times and your nervous and glandular system, particularly the adrenal gland, is exhausted.  You have to keep increasing the “dose” to have energy and eventually nothing works and you crash.
3.  Caffeine is addictive.
The fact that you can get caffeine withdrawal symptoms if you stop is an obvious symptom of addiction. Most people don’t want to be addicted to anything!
You probably think you don’t drink enough to be addicted, but research shows you probably already are. Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine showed that low to moderate caffeine intake (as little as one small cup of coffee per day) can quickly produce withdrawal symptoms.

4.  Caffeine often comes with sugar and other health hazards.
Raw coffee beans by themselves don’t taste good, so sweeteners are usually added. This is usually white sugar or some artificial chemical that tastes sweet.
Some people consider white sugar to also be a chemical poison.

5.  Caffeine toxicity has been linked to, well, almost everything.
The above four points are pretty well known. Caffeine toxicity, on the other hand, doesn’t seem to be as commonly discussed. If you do a medical search for “caffeine toxicity” on Google Scholar, you get 44,000 entries.
Caffeine has been associated with studies in a lot of conditions including:
  • irregular heartbeat
  • insomnia
  • psychosis
  • anorexia
  • sleeplessness
  • headaches
  • nervousness
  • irritability
  • depression
  • bedwetting
  • birth defects in rodents
6.  Caffeine is used as an insecticide.
Back to my original point. Over 20 years ago James Nathanson, assistant professor of neurology at Harvard Medical School, reported in Science magazine of this important function of caffeine. The study determined that caffeine combined with other insecticides increases their killing power. In one test, a small dose of caffeine increased known pesticides potency by 10 times. Caffeine appears to produce the destructive effect by suppressing certain enzymes in the insects’ nervous systems. In man, caffeine is now classified by many scientists as a neurotoxin. That means it is definitely not “good” for your nerves.
Do you think that maybe you have other pesticides in your system that caffeine could react with?
7.  Coffee cups destroy the environment.
The world drinks 400 billion coffees a year. We toss away 100 million cups a year which, if we are careful with our trash, ends up in landfills.
The paper in landfills, like all organic matter, decomposes without oxygen, and thus produces methane which has 23 times the heat trapping power of CO2.
The plastic coating of the paper and the polystyrene coffee cup lid, after its minutes-long use, will continue to exist for hundreds of years. Plastic coffee cup lids contain the toxic substances styrene and benzene, which have been documented as suspected carcinogens and neurotoxins. That’s also bad!

Message from NASA about 2012

2012: Beginning of the End or Why the World Won't End?
12.22.11
Scenes from the upcoming film 2012. Courtesy Columbia Pictures.Scenes from the motion picture "2012." Courtesy Columbia Pictures.Remember the Y2K scare? It came and went without much of a whimper because of adequate planning and analysis of the situation. Impressive movie special effects aside, Dec. 21, 2012, won't be the end of the world as we know. It will, however, be another winter solstice.

Much like Y2K, 2012 has been analyzed and the science of the end of the Earth thoroughly studied. Contrary to some of the common beliefs out there, the science behind the end of the world quickly unravels when pinned down to the 2012 timeline. Below, NASA Scientists answer several questions that we're frequently asked regarding 2012.

Question (Q): Are there any threats to the Earth in 2012? Many Internet websites say the world will end in December 2012.
Answer (A): Nothing bad will happen to the Earth in 2012. Our planet has been getting along just fine for more than 4 billion years, and credible scientists worldwide know of no threat associated with 2012.

Q: What is the origin of the prediction that the world will end in 2012?
A: The story started with claims that Nibiru, a supposed planet discovered by the Sumerians, is headed toward Earth. This catastrophe was initially predicted for May 2003, but when nothing happened the doomsday date was moved forward to December 2012. Then these two fables were linked to the end of one of the cycles in the ancient Mayan calendar at the winter solstice in 2012 -- hence the predicted doomsday date of December 21, 2012.

Q: Does the Mayan calendar end in December 2012?
A: Just as the calendar you have on your kitchen wall does not cease to exist after December 31, the Mayan calendar does not cease to exist on December 21, 2012. This date is the end of the Mayan long-count period but then -- just as your calendar begins again on January 1 -- another long-count period begins for the Mayan calendar.

Q: Could phenomena occur where planets align in a way that impacts Earth?
A: There are no planetary alignments in the next few decades, Earth will not cross the galactic plane in 2012, and even if these alignments were to occur, their effects on the Earth would be negligible. Each December the Earth and sun align with the approximate center of the Milky Way Galaxy but that is an annual event of no consequence.
› More about alignment
"There apparently is a great deal of interest in celestial bodies, and their locations and trajectories at the end of the calendar year 2012. Now, I for one love a good book or movie as much as the next guy. But the stuff flying around through cyberspace, TV and the movies is not based on science. There is even a fake NASA news release out there..."
- Don Yeomans, NASA senior research scientist
Q: Is there a planet or brown dwarf called Nibiru or Planet X or Eris that is approaching the Earth and threatening our planet with widespread destruction?
A: Nibiru and other stories about wayward planets are an Internet hoax. There is no factual basis for these claims. If Nibiru or Planet X were real and headed for an encounter with the Earth in 2012, astronomers would have been tracking it for at least the past decade, and it would be visible by now to the naked eye. Obviously, it does not exist. Eris is real, but it is a dwarf planet similar to Pluto that will remain in the outer solar system; the closest it can come to Earth is about 4 billion miles.

Q: What is the polar shift theory? Is it true that the earth’s crust does a 180-degree rotation around the core in a matter of days if not hours?
A: A reversal in the rotation of Earth is impossible. There are slow movements of the continents (for example Antarctica was near the equator hundreds of millions of years ago), but that is irrelevant to claims of reversal of the rotational poles. However, many of the disaster websites pull a bait-and-switch to fool people. They claim a relationship between the rotation and the magnetic polarity of Earth, which does change irregularly, with a magnetic reversal taking place every 400,000 years on average. As far as we know, such a magnetic reversal doesn’t cause any harm to life on Earth. A magnetic reversal is very unlikely to happen in the next few millennia, anyway.

The Blue Marble: Next GenerationEarth, as seen in the Blue Marble: Next Generation collection of images, showing the color of the planet's surface in high resolution. This image shows South America from September 2004.Q: Is the Earth in danger of being hit by a meteor in 2012?
A: The Earth has always been subject to impacts by comets and asteroids, although big hits are very rare. The last big impact was 65 million years ago, and that led to the extinction of the dinosaurs. Today NASA astronomers are carrying out a survey called the Spaceguard Survey to find any large near-Earth asteroids long before they hit. We have already determined that there are no threatening asteroids as large as the one that killed the dinosaurs. All this work is done openly with the discoveries posted every day on the NASA NEO Program Office website, so you can see for yourself that nothing is predicted to hit in 2012.

Q: How do NASA scientists feel about claims of pending doomsday?
A: For any claims of disaster or dramatic changes in 2012, where is the science? Where is the evidence? There is none, and for all the fictional assertions, whether they are made in books, movies, documentaries or over the Internet, we cannot change that simple fact. There is no credible evidence for any of the assertions made in support of unusual events taking place in December 2012.
› Why you need not fear a supernova
› About super volcanoes

Q: Is there a danger from giant solar storms predicted for 2012?
A: Solar activity has a regular cycle, with peaks approximately every 11 years. Near these activity peaks, solar flares can cause some interruption of satellite communications, although engineers are learning how to build electronics that are protected against most solar storms. But there is no special risk associated with 2012. The next solar maximum will occur in the 2012-2014 time frame and is predicted to be an average solar cycle, no different than previous cycles throughout history.

Till now toxic waste of Bhopal Tragedy not cleared

Thousand of people died overnight

After the 1984 December Bhopal gas tragedy resulted in death of thousands of people and nearly 40,000 people permanently disabled.
The most  annoying thing is that the toxic which was generated in gas tragedy has not yet cleared from the factory site because of complexity in removing it.
Burial of  toxic affected child
Last month New York federal court dismissed plea on responsibility of DOW chemical company to evacuate the toxic on Bhopal union carbide factory site.
Since Dow company acquired Union carbide company 16 year after the tragedy cannot be held responsible for tragedy post effects.
Now Indian Government  has taken steps to disposal of waste in Germany.
More than legal claims its all about moral responsibility of the company to care about health of people and environment as it is enjoying profit from  acquired company.
